The Gospel of Matthew
Matthew Chapter 16:27-28 Interestingly, there seems to be another Greek to English translation mistake, in this saying of Jesus.
Jesus said, "for the son of man is about to to come ( go ) in the glory of His Father with the Angels, and then,
( Psalm 61:12 )...He shall give to every man according to his conduct... Truly I say to you, there are some standing here that shall not experience death, until they see the Son of man coming ( going ) in His Kingdom."
Note ~ Jesus states that He will return in the future, in the glory of His Father, the Divine Loving Creator, His Angels will accompany Him, and He will dispense the Divine Spiritual Law of reaping what we sow to everyone, according to how they lived their life. Of course, He has no real need to do that, as the Spiritual Law of reaping what we sow, is a Divine Law of the Creator, and is always in operation.
He then says, that some of those standing there with Him, will not experience death, before He returns. Some scholars believe, that Jesus thought the end of the world was very close to His own time, but He was wrong, because of sayings like these. Obviously, all those who were there with Him died, as Jesus has still yet to return. But Jesus states later in the Gospels, that only the Divine Creator knows the time, not even Himself knows it. So, it is a little unclear why He would imply this, using these words. He also felt, He would represent the Divine Creator when He comes, to dispense justice to all. This is a common understanding amongst Christians, taken literally from these statements attributed to Him. But literal words, from two thousand years ago can shift over time in meaning.
As a follower of Jesus, I see this statement in a different way, based on the Greek. The Greek word translated in all Bibles to mean 'coming', can also mean 'going'. Over the ages, the translations may have lost the correct inflection of the original Greek word. If we replace the word 'coming' with 'going' it reads, "for the Son of man is about to go in the glory of His Father with His Angels, and then He shall give to every man according to his conduct. Truly I say to you, there are some of those standing here that shall not experience death, until they see the Son of man going in His Kingdom."
This would make more sense, and He may be pointing to His ascension into Heaven, following His physical death. He knew the religious leaders were trying to kill Him, and His Spiritual friend John, had already been killed for also speaking the truth. So Jesus may have been saying, the Angels are in Heaven and He is going in Spiritual glory to be with them and His Father, after His ascension. The Spiritual Law of reaping what we sow, comes from Heaven, where Jesus will be at one with the Divine Loving Creator. Jesus knew His ascension into Heaven was approaching, and many standing there with Him would still be alive at that time. This makes logical sense of the statements translated from the Greek centuries ago, that may have made a small, but important alteration, that was never corrected. Then there is no need to conjecture, that Jesus was mistaken about returning, before some of those there with Him, died.
